November is National Diabetes Month

November is National Diabetes Month.
Did you know that more than 37.3 million Americans have diabetes?  That’s about 1 in every 10 people in the US.   Diabetes unchecked can be fatal, other risk factors include blindness, kidney failure, heart disease and stroke.
During November, we’re inviting all of our patients to schedule a health exam and to get their blood sugar levels checked. It’s important to remember that lifestyle changes such as losing weight, eating healthy and engaging in regular, moderate exercise may reduce the progression of prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes.
Our registered dietitian can help you understand dietary dos and don’ts — a must for managing diabetes. Being consistent about what, when and how much you eat is crucial. And without the help of a nutritional expert, it can be frustrating and confusing.
Watch our video below about choosing the right diet.

How to get started with weight-loss and stay on track.

Losing weight doesn’t have to mean losing a lot of weight. Taking off just 5% to 10%—that’s 10 to 20 pounds for a 200-pound person—can improve your health and well-being significantly.   If you have diabetes, you may find your blood sugar levels are easier to manage and that you need less diabetes medicine after you lose weight. Many people who lose weight notice that they have more energy and sleep better too.

Diabetes can be successfully managed.

Work with our medical providers to set personal goals
and be sure to monitor your critical health numbers, including your:

-Weight-
-Blood pressure-
-Blood sugar level-
-Blood cholesterol level-

Taking these steps may also help prevent serious complications that can arise from diabetes.

Get your blood sugar levels checked, we have availability this week!
We look forward to seeing you soon.
